      Skill Training in Musali in Mannar District

       

      Arrippu is a coastal fishing village in Musali D.S Division of Mannar District. This village is about 65km from Mannar where the people are 100% fishermen. The infrastructure facilities are very poor. Due to the influence of Catholic Church certain improvements are visible in the village. pilot_sur

      About 155 beneficiaries have been selected in Arripu and adjoining villages in order to provide assistance for housie re construction by NEHRP. As there are no Masons and Carpenters in these villages NEHRP has organized a mason training program to train 25 mason from amongst   selected youths in the village.

      pilot_surThis program was inaugurated on 09th November 2009 by MR.T.Ketheeswaran, Divisional Secretary in the presence of Rev.Jeyapalan and Mr.Iruthayanathan Croos, Principal, Arripu Catholic Maha Vidiyalayam. The program was held at the above mentioned school. Social Development Consultant, District Engineer, Skill Development Consultant from NEHRP also were present during the ceremony.

      There were 21 trainees who were present and they were very enthusiastic about learning this new trade. This training program envisages including use of pr-cast fero cement rafters and other pre-cast materials like wall plate, Door and window frames in housing construction. As a result of this the program will have a new technology included in the syllabus. This makes a new approach in the housing construction by NEHRP.
